THIS IS MY LOT, BEAUTIFUL STRANGERS.
The past week has been, to sum it all up: richly overwhelming (in all its connotations and irony of the very phrase) Much has happened, some of my doing, some beyond anyone's control. All in all, I'm thankful that He has made it easier though I deserve not even the littlest amount of grace and more importantly, I thank Him for watching over a very special someone through her rough and painful patch.
Like my favourite catch-phrase goes, FIGHTING! So Mr. Dio has finally embarked on our new journey through our last (phew, FINALLY!) text, a novel by George Eliot (who was in actual fact a female author by the real name of Mary Anne Evans, but used the pen-name 'George' due to understandable societal issues back in the 19th Century!) entitled 'Silas Marner'. I actually foresee myself growing to love this novel because of its depth and great insight into humanity and our complexities. The idea of 'the gift of a child' when Silas finds an abandoned little girl, Eppie, and grows to love her unconditionally over the period in which he parents her really got me interested! More intriguing an idea would be how Eppie actually changes his life and redeems it because the love he has for his daughter enables him to learn again how to appreciate those aspects of life from which he had shut himself off. Here's the epigraph of the novel extracted from William Wordsworth's poem (ballad) , 'Michael', A child, more than all other gifts That earth can offer to declining man, Brings hope with it, and forward-looking thoughts. Eliot's take on 'Tolerance' was another idea which drew me to her novel. Eliot stressed in her work, more often than not, the importance of tolerance: the ability to judge people not only by their actions but also by their motives and intentions, the human heart- their reasons for behaving as they did. Come to think of it, she's right, isn't she? On another note, here's to JOJO, my late blog shout-out: ![]() You're EIGHTEEN, aw. Have a great year ahead, and remember I love you m'dear!
